I swam with the wild dolphins in Bunbury, Western Australia, shark caged with the Great White shark and illegally swam with the seals in Gansbai, South Africa  (it was not permitted as it was in close proximity to the great white sharks.) It was a foolish thing to do and I regretted doing it until this day.  On 31st August 2106, which coincidentally was on Malaysia’s 59th Independence day,  I was in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia making one of my dreams  come true… which was to swim with the whales.

It all started way back in 1985 when I first took up scuba diving as a hobby and when I first began to watch the television series Ocean Quest. It was about a former Miss Universe, Shawn Weatherly ( I could only remember her … obviously!!! ) together with an adventurer filmmaker scuba diver,  exploring the wonders and terrors of the oceans. In one of the episodes of the series, the two of them were swimming  alongside  the whales. I was so intrigued with that particular scene and  from that moment on, I promised myself that I would do the same in my lifetime,  In shaa Allah (God Willing).

This activity could be done legally to my knowledge, in three countries which are Sri Lanka, Tonga and Australia. In 2015, I contacted a whale tour operator in Sri Lanka and mentioned my request and he gave me a positive reply. I made a booking with him, flew to Sri Lanka but alas on the day of my trip the seas were stormy and the tour operator had to cancel the trip due to safety reasons.  I had no problems with that.

Tonga was far and expensive, so my last choice was Australia. Take a look at the video and watch happened on that eventful day in Mooloolaba, Australia on the 31st August 2016 ……… my patience was finally  rewarded after thirty-one years of dreaming  ……. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) .
